(07/097) Ongoing MLKP Case…

On 21 July 2010 Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No. 11 began to hear the case against Özkan Gerçek and Ömer Adıgüzel who had been wounded with police fire on the grounds that they did not obey the stop warning in an identity check in Avcılar District of Istanbul Province on 8 November 2009 on charges of “being a member of an illegal organisation (Marxist Leninist Communist Party (MLKP)” under Article 314 of TPC. The defendants were not medically treated and sent to prison after the incident.

The defendant Özkan Gerçek said in his legal argument that “we faced with identity check and tension raised and police officer shot Ömer Adıgüzel and we aimed to run away by firing in order to scare the officers”. The court adjourned the hearing to watch the surveillance camera records to 3 November 2010 (atilim.org, 22 July).
